Earth and Sapce Sciences Experimental Teaching Center

1 Introduction

The Earth and Sapce Sciences Experimental Teaching Center (ESS) has been established in 2002. With the developed c.a. 10 years, the ESS has teaching lab room nearly 2000 m2, the facilities for experimental teaching have been integrated together with the 5 scientific subjects. Supported by 985 project the experimental and teaching conditions have been greatly improved, thus the experimental effectes have been better improved. Facilities of different subject have been most optimized. Most teaching experiments are open to undergraduate students and graduate students.

 4  Breif Introduction of different devisions

(1)Geophysics Teaching Lab

At present, there are lots of natural and environmental development challenges. Humanity is facing serious geological disasters such as earthquakes, volcanoes, etc., and also facing the growing demand of oil, water, minerals and other important natural resources. Solving these problems is largely dependent on our comprehensive studies on the Earth’s internal fine structures and their evolutions. Geophysical explorations (including earthquakes, the Earth's electromagnetic field, gravity field and other probes) are the most important means of understanding the internal structure of Earth's. The main purpose of this laboratory and the task is to allow students to practice by geophysical methods, knowledge and understanding of theories and methods of geophysical exploration, geophysical research to provide skills and tools in the future.

Geophysical experiment teaching centers, including four experimental detection laboratories and a data processing center, namely: seismic laboratory, electromagnetic detection laboratory, the laboratory detection of gravity and rock physics laboratory detection, and numerical data processing center the earth. Need to further emphasize that our school and the Seismological Bureau of Anhui Province to build the State Observatory Mengcheng Geophysical Research Station is an important geophysical professional teaching experiment.

(2)Space Physics Teaching Lab

With the continuous progress of society and scientific development, we dependent more and more on aerospace and communications systems. Space physics-based space weather has also been widespread concern in countries and public, and has been significantly developed. Space physics data analysis is based on observation, combined with numerical simulations, theoretical calculations of the subjects. Qualified space physics students need a comprehensive understanding of observational studies, numerical simulation and theoretical studies, and other basic methods.

 Space physics teaching laboratory designed to give students exposure to and understanding of space physics research in a variety of basic methods. Observational data, including space physics data storage and display systems, space physics simulation system and the laser radar data observing systems.

(3)Atomosphere Physics Teaching Lab

Atmospheric Physics Teaching Lab has a series of conventional meteorological instruments and satellite systems, services in teaching and research. We have routine meteorological observation instruments, including mercury thermometers, ventilation psychrometer, hand-held anemometer, mercury barometer, aneroid barometer, the six elements of automatic weather station, ambient air quality monitoring system, automatic photometer, multi-filter rotating shade band radiometer, geostationary satellite receiving systems, polar-orbiting satellite system, DVB-S satellite data systems, lightning detection systems, atmospheric boundary layer convection tank simulation system.

(4) Geochemistry Teaching Lab

  Geochemistry Teaching Lab is open to undergraduate students and graduate students who study subject of geochemstry. The major experimental classes include intruduction to physical geology ( opento the whole graduate students) , crystallography, mineralogy, optical mineralogy, petrology , chemical analysis of rocks and minerals and mineralography.

With the develop of 5 decades, the Geochemistry Teaching Lab has equiped with more than 20 sets of microscopes, atomic absorption spectrometer, specimen of crystal models, mineral and crystal samples, varied rock samples and fossils.

 (5) Enrionmental Teaching Lab

  Enrionmental Teaching Lab is open to undergraduate students and graduate students who study subject of envrionemtal science and recovery of university. The major experimental classes include Comprehensive Experiment on  Envrionemtal Science and Recovery, Comprehensive Analyses on  Envrionemtal Samples, etc.

With the develop of more than decade, the Enrionmental Teaching Lab has equiped with more than 50 sets of intruments for students, including in microwave digestion, soild extraction, high-speed centrifuge, ultraviolet spectrophotometer, COD and continuous water quality monitors and Gas chromatograph, ect. These intruments and facilities provide good conditions for class experiments and prictice for studens to better understand envriomental science and recovery.
