Doctoral Student Lu Xiaoqi Won the Best Student Paper Award on the Second International Conference on Selenium in the Environment and Human Health

In October 23 to 28, the Second International Conference on Selenium in the Environment and Human Health was held in Suzhou Institute for Advanced Study of USTC. Doctoral student Lu Xiaoqi from Suzhou Key Lab for Selenium and Human Health, Suzhou Institute of USTC had the honor to get the Best Student Paper Award. The academic paper of Lu, with the title of "Selenium content loss and speciation change of higher selenium cereal during different cooking process", reports the stability of selenium in artificial strengthened grain under different cooking conditions, which makes great contribution to research on selenium fortification of agricultural products and food. More than 60 pieces of academic papers were submitted by participants from over 20 countries, two of which were awarded as the Best Student Paper. Another winner is from the U.S. Southern Illinois University. 

With the selenium fortification technology and related basic research as the main research directions, Suzhou Key Lab for Selenium and Human Health in Suzhou Institute for Advanced Study of USTC, has been always focusing on the improvement of Human selenium nutrition condition. It is the first specialized selenium research lab among Colleges and universities in China and one of international famous institutions for systematic research on selenium fortification technology. Suzhou Institute for Advanced Study of USTC has twice successfully undertaken the International Conference on Selenium in the Environment and Human Health, which has made great contribution to the cooperation and communication between scientific research personnel in our university and international well-known research institutions and has improved the international influence of our university in selenium research field. The result of the Best Student Paper Award again indicates the recognition and affirmation of the work of Suzhou Key Lab for Selenium and Human Health by the International Experts Committee. 

The Second International Conference on Selenium in the Environment and Human Health is co-hosted by University of Science and Technology of China and Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Science and undertaken by Suzhou Institute for Advanced Study of USTC. Over 100 participants from more than 40 research institutions of America, UK, Germany, Australia, Canada, and China etc. attended the conference, which covered the most influential experts on selenium research, made this conference another grand meeting following the first International Conference on Selenium in the Environment and Human Health.
