Thus, the principal emphasis is to understand subsurface processes relevant to hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation, including wave propagation in heterogeneous media, depth imaging, velocity modeling in complex media including anisotropy, inversion and scattering of waves from heterogeneous and porous rocks, poroelasticity, and rock physics.

The successful candidate will spend one year in the Full Waveform Inversion Center of Excellence (FWI COE) and one year in the Earth Model Building Center of Excellence (EMB COE), based in Houston, gaining practical experience by working on advanced imaging and earth model building projects. During this time he/she will be involved in daily operations of the COE projects including execution of commercial projects, client communication and project management.

After the initial two year on-the -job training period, the candidate will be transferred to one of the operating regions of WesternGeco to work in earth model building /full waveform inversion related businesses.
